Being A Rockstar In Your Industry Is A Matter Of Indoor Playground Business

In an earlier blog post, I discussed the 7 things I no longer do in my indoor playground business as I have matured and grown as a company owner.
I chased Michael Hyatt, who, in many of his books and programs always describes designing your ideal days and weeks as"the appetite zone" Operating inside your dream zone, even as he explains it, simply means you are spending the bulk of your time doing what you love AND are great at.
While this is continually shifting as my priorities (both professionally and personally) evolve, these are 5 of those tasks that I'm not giving up only yet for a company proprietor.

At Growing Vines Cafe and Play, we have chosen our unique personal birthday parties as the main focus of our small business .
Because of this focus, I've chosen to plan the primary facets of each celebration we host. Whenever someone publications their event with us, they receive a comprehensive confirmation that includes my contact info and mentions that I will be personally in touch as their event draws near.
While I don't normally take care of the execution of our celebrations, I really do act as the main touchpoint for parents and collect all their information and preferences. Ten days before each party, I send out a personalized celebration"questionnaire" which comprises all the details we've gathered up to that point, provides added day-of info, and inquires about last-minute details.
I answer all questions the host might have in reaction to that email and-- following a few back-and-forth communication-- I list all their event information on what we call a"celebration prep sheet" According to clients' choices, I make a list for all our sellers (catering, party supplies, balloons, paper products, etc.) and will usually have a team member complete the shopping and organize all of the supplies so they are grouped by party. Since we have around 6 all-inclusive events in 1 weekend, this business is indispensable!
The party-prep sheet is an extremely detailed document that makes it possible for any of our party hosts to execute the occasion to the specific specifications of the parents, leaving no rock unturned. This has allowed me to have most weekends free nonetheless still feel confident we're delivering an above-and-beyond birthday party experience.
After the celebration, we deliver a survey to each hosting family. Should they have opinions, whether it be negative or positive, I always follow up personally. This closes the loop clients' expertise and makes sure they understand I truly care for their child's special day. This method has lead to a substantial number of repeat bookings and consistent referrals from previous parties.
Not merely is planning these celebrations some thing that I excel in, but I also take great pleasure inside . Event planning is the way I got into this business in the first place, therefore I am more than happy to take on this task. If I am ever feeling overwhelmed with the facts, I understand I've amazing team members that I will lean on.

Speaking of our incredible team members, another job I choose to have a hand is our hiring and firing process. While I really do leave the final decision up to our cafe manager, I would rather write the project posts and descriptions and filter through resumes and applications before bringing anybody in for a meeting.
Having spent several years shooting and hiring my fair share of workers, it is easy for me to spot red-flags on software and also find"diamonds in the rough." Since we have most of our normal operating procedures optimized and documented, I prefer to employ based on personality and excitement instead of experience.
In addition, I make sure I welcome every employee to our staff and touch base with them frequently to check in and collect feedback from them.

Since I spend time doing those 7 items (and more!) , my energy and time are freed up to research what our ideal clients want and want and figure out a way to integrate that into our business model.
For example, I discovered that our birthday celebration bookings were slowing down at the Summer. When I asked a couple of clients, they said that they DID adore our occasions and attention-to-detail but preferred a Summer celebration to be out at their residence (since many have backyards and pools). We then began offering cellular events, where we would bring decorations, food, and activities for your kids to their homes, and it was a hit!
Another illustration is our occasions . We are always adding fun new events that allow customers, especially working parents with limited weekday accessibility, to visit us outside of hours and get an enhanced experience throughout the subject of the event, course, or activity.
If I had been I doing EVERY task in my business, I would not have nearly enough time to do as much innovation or research.

It is for this reason that I love interacting with our customers all time (when I could ) and on social media. I opt to work celebrations, events, and even open-play when my family's schedule permits it so that I could stay active and aware of what's occurring during the day-to-day. It also gives me the chance to observe how clients are using our distance first-hand and listen to any concerns or questions they have. Even though in this age of technology you can find reviews, types, and polls, I have found that NOTHING can replace using a face-to-face dialog with customers who use your distance (and probably visits competitors too!) on a daily basis.
It's because of this you will even see billionaire CEOs seeing retail locations on a regular basis. Howard Schultz, the former CEO of Starbucks, was for visiting hundreds of stores across the nation each year, spending some time with all the clients who had been spending their cash on his merchandise.
I really like being a family owned and operated company, and that I love for my customers to know that I'm completely invested in their own happiness.

When I was researching this business model, there was not a great deal of info out there. Current owners actually keep all their business secrets close to their vest, and now that I don't blame them! It is hard as soon as you've worked for years and years to set up a profitable business to want to give away those secrets for nothing. Even if you charge a consulting fee, you're still kind of giving away the secrets that you've worked so hard for and it's very easy as a company owner to acquire a little smug and protective of your research and development.
When it came time to start my own company, I wound up making a slew of errors (and I suggest a TON of mistakes) since I simply did not know any better. When I started getting emails and calls to consult for additional possible play cafe owners, then I couldn't keep all this info to myself. As soon as it's easy for me to feel like an imposter or that there are other small business owners more capable than me to share this information, I understand that there's a 4-years-ago me sitting at work somewhere waiting for the next idea to leap out at them.
And honestly, I don't want to see one more business close because somebody who is walked before them didn't share any info! So why don't you discuss it myself?!
However, my time is valuable. I have two little kids and run another business... I don't have 12 hours to devote hand-holding each perspective owner through the process. (And let me tell you, it will take at least 12 to 24 hours of paid one-on-one consulting to break the surface of what you need, including documentation.)
PCA is broken down into eight modules at which I pay everything from writing your business plan to deciding on a place and signing the right lease to organizing your own flows of earnings and much, much more. Students may go through those modules in their own pace, and I do not have to spend some time to walk my pupils throughout the program.
This allows me to help other entrepreneurs in their path while also reserving the time and energy I need for my family and other commitments.
I know many owners who choose to do ALL of the things inside their small business, and it works for them because we all have different"desire zones"
Are and can design my"perfect" weeks accordingly. When I was still burning the candle on both ends trying to handle everything , I would be doing myself, my family, and my clients a significant disservice.
